Vitamins and minerals can be very helpful in fibromyalgia, although the benefit derived varies from person to person. Magnesium and Vitamin D have been highlighted. B Complex vitamins can also make a difference, Vitamin B1 (thiamine) in particular.
People with fibromyalgia often experience intense fatigue along with widespread pain. There is a growing body of research that supports the theory that the fatigue is the result of the failure of organelles in our cells called mitochondria. Treatment with Vitamin B1 and Coenzyme Q10 can be helpful with this.
For any of these treatments to be effective, the substances have to be taken at a therapeutic dose level. In order to determine what a therapeutic dose would be for you, and if there are any contraindications to taking these substances for you, you should discuss your interest in them with your MD or a naturopathic doctor (ND).
